Customer Review: It was nice to get some back stories about the Death Star, but at some points it seemed long winded. The last few chapters, IMHO seem a bit wacky to be considered cannon.
Customer Review: I discovered this book almost a year ago, and wanted it instantly. Only the price stopped me from purchasing it then and there. The seller's price for the new book was unbeatable, and though the shipping was a little slow (expedited wasn't available), the book fulfilled all of my expectations. It... more info
Customer Review: In many ways this book deserves the highest praise: well written, thought provoking, and in some cases very funny. Yet at times seemed justified for an average rating because it did seem to drag and Mr. Perry chose to wordsmith just a bit too much for me. However, I believe the book can offer every... more info
Customer Review: I found this book in a small bookstore in Wisc. with a sticker that said "Staff Pick." I bought it thinking it would be a novel, with a plot, conflict, character development, and so forth. In fact it is simply Michael Perry's journal, composed of a loose stack of vignettes and character sketches... more info
Customer Review: For artists who work with pattern this book is a must have. I didn't think twice about ordering it and it's full of inspiration that will have you rushing for pen and paper. Textile artists would also benefit.
I ordered this book in part because of all the positive reviews. I really wanted to enjoy the story, but I just could not get into the book. I'm not really sure why - I would be hard pressed to say anything negative about the book, it just was not for me.
Customer Review: This series is superb, not only as a member of the murder mystery genre, but as fiction itself. The characters are real, the venue believable, the plot engulfing. I was told by a teacher a generation younger than I that he had not had social sciences stressed during his own primary education.... more info
Customer Review: I am a big Anne Perry fan. I really enjoyed the first book in this series. I felt, however, that each succeeding book was just more of the same: life in the trenches, Joseph solving a mystery, and platitudes about the necessity of holding on to the war for the sake of Jolly Old England.
I was... more info
Customer Review: I honestly don't know why I bothered finishing this book. It started collapsing in the first chapter. Perry was absolutely committed to destroying the plot, assassinating the credibility of his characters, and giving prose a bad name. According to one reviewer Perry is a master of the "runaway... more info
Customer Review: I've been annoyed for some time -- for the past dozen volumes in this generally first-rate series set in London of the 1880s and `90s -- that the author had served her readers so poorly by inventing the Inner Circle, a secret society trying to take control of Great Britain. The conspiracy became a... more info
Customer Review: Perry's more recent novels -- he's been turning this stuff out since the early `80s -- are somewhat more sophisticated in their details, but his main themes haven't changed much. Someone has to escape danger, or circumstances, and the protagonist either helps him (or her) accomplish that or has to... more info
Customer Review: I've worked my way through this entire series now, and while the first dozen or so (this is no. 23) were generally well done -- good, reasonably accurate descriptions of London of the 1880s, pointed contrast between Society's drawing rooms and the miserable existence of the laboring classes, vivid... more info
Customer Review: After being out of print, we have this tale of a talented hit man back for our reading pleasure - and it is a pleasure. Like most hit men, the Butcher's Boy kills with cold efficiency. All goes well until he murders a United States Senator. This stirs the FBI and Department of Justice into intense... more info
Customer Review: I've read some of Anne Perry's other mysteries Funeral in Blue, A Breach of Promise (William Monk Novels) and enjoyed them, but this one is probably her best work so far. The author introduces characters that are three dimensional and real, and her description of England on the eve of World War... more info
Customer Review: This is very detailed information about periodontal diseases. It includes etiology, microbiology, body's immune response, great illustrations and tables which make easier memorization and understanding. If you have enough patience to read it all, at the end you have very substantial knowledge about... more info
Customer Review: In Dante's Inferno those deepest in hell are those that can not accept love because they are too suspicious of the actions of others; they think of love as a con-job waiting to happen. Petruchio plays games that save Kathrina's heart, she accepts love, this tough love/ cruel to be kind method, and a... more info
Customer Review: After completing Michael Creighton's book, Next, I scanned his resources: much to my surprise, he listed this book by Chesterton. I cannot enhance Creighton's comments in this review, but can state that G. K. Chesterton, a man with a remarkable gift of memory and humor and insight and wisdom, did us... more info
Customer Review: This is the twenty-second entry in this series about the crime-detecting adventures of Inspector (eventually Superintendent) Thomas Pitt of the Metropolitan London Police in the last quarter of the 19th century, and it's becoming apparent that the author is running out of steam. Either she's out of... more info
Customer Review: Jedi Healer is the continued story of the Clone Wars MASH unit on the Planet Drongar. The Republic medical team of surgeons, nurses, and droids is still headed by Dr. Jos Vondar, but his close friend Dr. Zan Yant did not survive Medstar I. The wounded clone troopers continue to be brought in by... more info
Customer Review: This collection of essays is a bit more eclectic than Population 485 but it showcases Perry's descriptive writing and thought-provoking observations well. Individual pieces were published between 1995 and 2004, and Perry has often updated the information through brief introductions or final notes.... more info
Customer Review: Very well organized, direct and easy to read. Describes how to pick a reputable surgeon, explains procedures, what to expect and includes pitfals to procedures. Lots of before after pictures. The author does a great job at presenting the information.
Customer Review: Is the only resolution to violence more violence? It was in the hope of negating this idea that I had to keep reading Michael Boatman's short story collection God Laughs When You Die (Dybbuk Press, 2007). With a prose style that catapults the reader right into the action--right into violent... more info
Customer Review: First off, this is not your typical book on the area or history of Charleston. It is not written in the novel format. If that is what you are looking for, this is not. This book is broken down into chapters that describe in great detail, the following: Area Overview, Directions, History,... more info
Customer Review: This is an excellent text book for an introduction to Emergency Management. It is the first volume in a series that also includes planning, response, technology, and mitigation. I highly recommend this series to any one interested in becoming an Emergency Manager or in teaching Emergency Management... more info
